This policy explains what data Pagio collects, why it collects it, and how it is handled.

Pagio is operated by an individual based in Hungary and is designed to respect your privacy and attention.

2. What data Pagio collects

Pagio collects only what is necessary to provide the service.

Account information

  • Email address
  • Authentication details (stored securely)

If you choose to sign in using Google, Pagio receives basic account information from Google, such as your email address and name. Pagio only requests the basic email and profile scopes and does not access any other Google services or data. Pagio does not receive access to your Google password or other Google account data.

Reading data

  • Books you add
  • Reading progress
  • Dates and timestamps
  • Notes or thoughts you choose to write

Technical data

Basic technical information required to keep the service running and secure, including:

  • Error logs and performance data
  • Authentication audit logs (IP address, browser information, approximate location derived from IP address, login timestamps)

This technical data is collected automatically by our infrastructure provider (Supabase) to ensure security, detect abuse, and maintain service reliability. Location information is approximate and derived from your IP address—it is not used for tracking, advertising, or profiling.

Pagio does not collect unnecessary personal information.

3. What Pagio does not do

Pagio:

  • does not sell your data
  • does not show ads
  • does not track you across other websites
  • does not use your data for profiling or targeted advertising

4. How your data is used

Your data is used only to:

  • provide Pagio's core functionality
  • store your reading history and notes
  • maintain reliability and fix issues

Your data is never used to pressure, rank, or manipulate you.

5. Data storage and security

Your data is stored using trusted infrastructure providers (such as Supabase).

Reasonable technical and organizational measures are taken to protect your data, including regular backups. However, no system can guarantee absolute security or zero data loss.

6. Backups and retention

Pagio keeps backups for a limited period to help recover from technical issues.

Data is retained only as long as necessary to provide the service, or until you delete your account.

7. Terms acceptance

When you first log in, Pagio shows a banner asking you to acknowledge the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.

This acceptance is recorded in your user settings (timestamp stored) to ensure legal compliance and track when you agreed to the terms.

8. Local storage and essential cookies

Pagio uses local storage and essential cookies to:

  • keep you signed in
  • remember basic preferences
  • ensure the app works reliably

Pagio does not use cookies or local storage for advertising or cross-site tracking.

9. Your rights

Under applicable data protection laws (including GDPR), you have the right to:

  • access your data
  • correct your data
  • delete your data
  • request a copy of your data

10. Third-party services

Pagio uses third-party services only where necessary to operate the product (for example, hosting, authentication, and database services).

These providers process data only on Pagio's behalf and are required to follow appropriate data protection standards.

OpenAI (Voice Transcription)

Users who use the voice note feature have their audio temporarily processed by OpenAI's Whisper API to convert speech to text. Audio is not stored by Pagio after transcription is complete and is not used to train AI models.

OpenAI (Weekly Digest)

Users who have reading activity receive a weekly AI-generated digest. To generate this, anonymised reading data (book titles, page counts, and note content) is temporarily sent to OpenAI's API. This data is not stored by OpenAI beyond the request and is not used to train AI models.

OpenAI (Book Scan)

Users who use the book scan feature have their book cover image temporarily processed by OpenAI's API to identify the title and author. If no cover is found through Google Books, the title and author may also be used to generate a replacement cover image. The uploaded scan image is not stored by Pagio after processing is complete and is not used to train AI models.

11. Changes to this policy

Pagio may update this Privacy Policy as the product evolves.

If changes are significant, they will be communicated clearly.
